DWR addresses surface wetting
DWR stands for durable water repellent. The GORE-TEX manufacturer explanation describes a thin treatment on the face textile that lowers surface energy, helping water roll off rather than soak in. It distinguishes that treatment from the waterproof membrane in its products.
Use separate fields for surface repellency and resistance to water passing through the construction. Visible beads do not establish hydrostatic resistance, seam sealing or bag waterproofness. The focus here is finish evaluation and durability state.
02
A beading photograph is not a test grade
The photograph shows droplets resting on a textile surface. Its source describes treated GORE-TEX fabric. It illustrates visible beading without implying JKPD uses that brand or establishing treatment chemistry, test method or grade.
For purchasing samples, record the state before and after the agreed observation, sample ID and conditions. Retain demonstration photographs for communication, but do not publish them as certification or infer long-term behavior from a single image.
03
Understand what spray evaluation measures
AATCC’s explanation of TM22 describes resistance to surface wetting: a controlled spray produces a wetting pattern assessed against a standard chart. Request the edition, specimen state and evaluation record along with the reported grade.
The AATCC method directory lists TM22 spray repellency separately from TM127 hydrostatic-pressure resistance. A spray grade is not a water-column value. Select a suitable additional method where the project requires a different protective result.
04
Separate initial and post-treatment results
Express durability as the required behavior after an identified treatment. This is a specification approach, not a universal washing procedure for bags. Start from intended care and use, then agree relevant cleaning, abrasion or other conditioning with the supplier, bag developer and laboratory.
Make initial and post-treatment samples distinguishable. Record procedure, cycles, drying or reactivation and evaluation state. Without those details, durable or washable repellency cannot be compared meaningfully across suppliers.
05
Do not turn an apparel video into a bag-care label
The GORE-TEX care video is supplementary viewing. It is not evidence of a suitable care procedure for a complete bag. Current manufacturer text states that DWR is not permanent and explains maintenance for its own products.
A bag may combine foam, bonded parts, printing, hardware and lining. Do not transfer a jacket’s tumble-drying or ironing advice directly to a bag label. Confirm cleaning and drying compatibility for the whole proposed combination; no universal temperature or home treatment recipe is given here.

06
Request chemistry declarations separately from repellency results
If a buyer requests fluorine-related, no-intentionally-added-PFAS or other chemistry criteria, define the scope: the surface finish, a fabric article or every material in the bag. Request the corresponding declaration, applicable analytical scope and traceability records. Beading does not reveal chemistry.
Likewise, a chemistry declaration does not establish durable repellency. Keep material identity, finishing revision, chemistry requirements, initial rating, post-treatment results and complete-bag care limits separately identifiable. List unresolved items rather than combining them into an undefined eco-waterproof label.
Share application requirements, candidate fabric articles and available records through the JKPD inquiry page.
