Define fabric direction and pattern repeat before approving panel placement for a jacquard-patterned bag. Selecting an attractive fabric photograph does not establish what the front, sides and pockets will show. Turn matching expectations into checkable relationships rather than requiring identical alignment from every viewing angle.
01
Identify the fabric and viewing direction
Retain the physical swatch ID and mark the intended face, top direction and material revision. Record notable viewing-angle differences and compare under consistent conditions. A grid appearance does not establish fiber composition, finishing or protective performance.
Link supplier specifications to the corresponding swatch. A material advertised in a supplier post is not automatically an approved project material.
02
Record the repeat on a physical reference
Choose repeatable points in the pattern and record their horizontal and vertical relationships. State measurement locations and material condition, adding a scale reference to photographs where useful. Do not estimate production placement from a web image.
Review pattern scale against the bag front. A large body and a small pocket can show different portions of the same grid. Agree the intended visual result before defining panel positions.
03
Prioritize matching locations
Identify required relationships across the front, between a pocket and body, and between adjacent panels. State where curves, corners or concealed areas use different expectations. A request to match the whole bag leaves too much undefined.
Mark reference positions for grid lines intended to continue across a seam. Check these against the finished seam, since alignment at cut edges does not establish finished visual continuity.
04
Include pockets and additional pieces
Place applied pockets, flaps and accessories in the same review view. When a pocket must match the body beneath it, define viewing direction and the expected relationship in the normal closed state.
Review changes during opening and packing without treating every flexible-bag state as the same flat-plane condition. Agree the main presentation state and record a practical scope for other states.
05
Discuss layout before freezing appearance
Ask the production team to assess specific pattern placement against the actual repeat and panel layout. These requirements may affect cutting layout, but they do not support fixed waste, price or minimum-order claims without a corresponding plan.
Retain approved swatches, panel-placement views and assembled photographs. Recheck alignment after pattern, size or pocket-location changes. The original grid concept illustration is not an actual jacquard photograph or evidence of fabric construction.
Share fabric references, key presentation views and matching locations through the JKPD inquiry page to discuss a patterned bag sample.
